The Moraine Valley Police Department supports and trains departmental staff in the concepts of the National Weather Service Storm Ready principals. Each year we provide training and drills supporting the concepts of self-readiness. Students and staff should be aware Moraine Valley is a “Shelter in Place Facility” in severe weather situations. Please look through our website and be aware of your safe evacuation/shelter places on campus along with our disabled person evacuation person policy.
Signs are posted on all shelter areas within the campus.
Each year across America, there are on average 10,000 thunderstorms, 5,000 floods, 1,000 tornadoes, and six named hurricanes. Additionally, about 90 percent of all presidentially declared disasters are weather related, leading to around 500 deaths per year and nearly $14 billion in damage.
The NWS Storm-Ready and Tsunami-Ready programs can help you be better prepared to save lives during threatening weather through better planning, education, and awareness. It also will help you determine how your own hometown can be affected by the ravages of severe weather.
