The Associate in Fine Arts (A.F.A.) is a  degree intended for students transferring to a four-year program or those with a strong interest in visual art.  The degree consists of a high concentration of art coursework with liberal arts general education courses. Careful planning in consultation with counselors and art instructors concerning course sequence, program admission, and transfer institution requirements is essential.

Supportive Certificates to an Associate in Fine Arts A.F.A

Students pursuing an A.F.A. are encouraged to explore our Digital Art and Design Certificate.  Build a well-rounded portfolio that will assist with your transfer to a four-year institution.

Graduates of the Fine Arts program have the creative and technical skills to find an array of careers in advertising, graphic design, photography, and multimedia communications. Popular career titles may include:

Art Transfer Agreements
You can transfer credits from Moraine Valley's Art program to most four-year colleges or universities across the country. 

The college is proud to partner with four-year colleges and universities to ensure a seamless transfer experience for its students who desire to earn a bachelor’s degree. We currently have 2+ 2 agreements with Lincoln College and Western Illinois University in addition to our always growing articulation agreements.

Art and Design Studios

Ceramics Studio

The ceramics studio features pottery wheels, a glazing room, gas and electric kilns, and an outdoor ceramics area. The studio’s numerous windows provide ideal natural light.

Painting Studio

The painting studio accommodates students working in a variety of media. Natural light flows through the studio’s all-glass western wall, overlooking the center’s courtyard.

3-D Design Studio

The three-dimensional design studio houses a range of sculpture tools and construction equipment, allowing you to create three-dimensional work in a variety of media.

2-D Design Studio

Photo Studio

Digital Art Studio

The digital studio is state-of-the-art and features Macintosh computers and industry-standard software.

Our green printmaking studio is fully equipped with everything students need for litho, etching, engraving, and screenprinting.

Drawing Studios

The drawing and life drawing studios are open spaces, filled with natural light. The desks have large working areas, with adjustable drawing boards.
